Horseheads and Elmira’s cheerleading teams both finished in the top five at the annual fall Southern Tier Athletic Conference cheerleading competition Sunday afternoon at Binghamton University’s Events Center.

Union-Endicott won the overall title with 335.8 points, ahead of Johnson City (323), Maine-Endwell (312.7), Horseheads (304.3) in fourth and Elmira (286.2) in fifth. Corning was in eighth place with 260.2 points.

Horseheads’ junior varsity team won the Spirit Award in its division, with Ithaca winning the varsity Spirit Award; there were no point totals for that award. There were 14 varsity squads competing overall.

The competition is held twice during the school year, once in the fall and once in the winter.
