Class AA: Binghamton vs. Elmira

Binghamton will look to avenge its lone blemish over the past seven weeks in the Class AA title game, set for an 8 p.m. kickoff at U-E.

The Patriots absorbed a 32-14 beating from the Express two weekends ago. That matched Binghamton’s low scoring output of the season and marked the lone October game in which the Pats put up fewer than 34 points.

High on Binghamton’s to-do list will be containing the Elmira running back duo of Jerry McPeak and Eli Thomas, who for the season have rushed for 2,182 yards. In the first go-round against the Patriots, the duo teamed for 247 rushing yards, with Thomas rushing for touchdowns of 10, 1 and 59 yards.

Not only has the Express averaged 42.5 points per game on the season, but it has allowed one of eight opponents more than 14 points. That was in Week 2 when Elmira held off U-E for a 38-33 win. Over its past six games, the Express has surrendered an average of 8.7 points per game.

The Patriots have reached the state semifinal round each of the past two seasons and in three of the past five.

Either Binghamton or Elmira will advance to a state quarterfinal, 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at Union-Endicott. The opponent will be either Henninger (7-2) or CBA (9-0) — the latter ranked second behind Rochester Aquinas among New York’s Class AA teams.
